About the project

The facility is on the East Coast of the US, in the middle of one of the largest timber production areas in the country. The owners have committed to the installation of a large scale biochar production device and are taking a modular approach, seeking to scale up as demand for CORCs and biochar develops. The first unit will be installed in q1 2022. The location is ideal for biochar with an abundant source of wood chips nearby. The team behind the project are seasoned professionals with decades of experience in finance, technology, engineering, operations and sustainability. Given the successful sale of CORCs and biochar, they have ambitious plans to scale up.

Key Project Data

  • Type of project info
    New facility or site
  • Carbon removal methodology info
  • Durability of carbon removal in years (number) info
  • Co-benefits info
Harvesting and forestry management sustainably decreases the risk of forest fires, insect damage and diseases. Biochar is deployed directly or indirectly for soil improvement. It dramatically increases water and nutrient retention in the soil leading to yield increases. Biochar reduces nutrient leaching, which has caused damage to waterways and seas. Biochar reduces the need for artificial fertilizers, which are typically energy-intensive to produce. This project will create green jobs and produce renewable energy to help decarbonise the grid.
