In 2025, Truecoco founded the first industrial scale project in Ghana, and the first worldwide to use coconut husk waste as its primary feedstock. Based in the Western Region of Ghana, Truecoco started out in 2017 as Ghana's first organic coconut processor. Having worked with a historic network of coconut farmers, Truecoco recognised an opportunity to create a carbon removal solution from the agricultural waste that will also improve the livelihood of smallholder farmers.
Situated within 50k HAs of coconut farmers, Truecoco's operation sources the coconut husk that unlike the shell has no commercial value. This provides a previously untapped revenue stream for smallholder farmers and local offtakers alike. Truecoco's history as an agri-processor across West Africa makes Truecoco uniquely placed to source agricultural waste and produce high quality biochar.
Truecoco's ambition is to champion CDR across West Africa as a climate and social solution. By 2030, Truecoco will remove more than 250k MTs of CO2, and improve the livelihoods of 30k smallholder farmers through the creation and application of high-quality biochar. This target will be achieved by scaling the solution across agricultural waste streams across West Africa.
