The Sanbra Foods Biochar project is establishing a biochar production facility in Ghana’s cocoa-growing region. Operated by Sanbra Foods, a trusted agricultural processor with a robust network of smallholder farmers in Ghana, the project will convert an estimated 15,800 tons of cocoa pod husks annually into high-quality biochar through thermal decomposition using a rotary kiln pyrolysis system. This initiative is designed to both mitigate climate change and improve smallholder farmer livelihoods. Biochar produced will be applied as a soil amendment on farms and community land to increase crop productivity, improve soil health, and sequester atmospheric carbon for over 1,000 years. In the absence of this project, cocoa pod husks are left to decay and emit CO₂ and methane, contributing to climate and air quality issues. This project addresses a critical challenge in the Ghanaian cocoa industry: the lack of sustainable waste disposal and declining soil health due to continuous monoculture practices. By thermochemically stabilizing this agricultural waste, the project creates a carbon-rich material that, when applied to soil, improves nutrient retention, water-holding capacity, and microbial activity—key to long-term agricultural resilience. The project is expected to remove an estimated 8,500 tCO₂e per year and generate certified CORCs under the Puro.earth biochar methodology. Terraton is a US technology company, a project developer, and is the project owner for the Sanbra Foods Biochar project. Terraton is building the first and only Carbon ERP (C-ERP) solution and is focused on making Carbon Dioxide Removal (CDR) businesses more accessible and scalable. Enhanced Rock Weathering (ERW) accelerates the process of natural weathering, a slow carbonation process that is estimated to absorb approximately one billion tonnes of CO₂ from the atmosphere each year. By spreading mineral-rich crushed silicate rock on local agricultural land, this nature-based process speeds up the rate of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) while bringing co-benefits to farming communities. The process begins when atmospheric CO₂ dissolves in rainwater, forming carbonic acid. As this slightly acidic water infiltrates soils, it reacts with crushed silicate rock applied by UNDO. The carbonic acid reacts with minerals such as calcium- and magnesium-bearing silicates, releasing cations and forming bicarbonate ions. This bicarbonate gradually moves through the soil and river systems, eventually reaching the ocean, where the carbon is locked away over geological timeframes. During the weathering reaction, carbonic acid is consumed, releasing cations from the mineral structure, which can then charge balance bicarbonate ions in solution. Given that this is the acceleration of a natural process, there is no ongoing physical human intervention required to capture, manage or durably sequester the CO₂ beyond the sustainable sourcing, crushing, haulage and spreading of the rock. Once the rainwater reacts with the silicate rock, the carbon dioxide removal process takes place naturally over time. Without the intervention of crushing, haulage and spreading, feedstock would remain in situ - either stockpiled or in the geological formation - leading to a negligible counterfactual scenario. The feedstock spread in Ontario has been selected based on its favourable mineralogy and is sourced from an existing mining operation in partnership with UNDO. The rock is mined, crushed, hauled to farms, loaded and spread using existing haulage and agricultural networks. Intensive sampling is conducted across monitoring sites to quantify sequestration, with data from these sites extrapolated across the operational area. Because ERW leverages existing, well-proven technologies from across the mining, haulage and agricultural industries, it has very low barriers to scale. UNDO employs multiple complementary approaches to quantify carbon dioxide removal, with a primary focus on Total Cation Accounting (TCA). This method provides an independent verification by estimating net export of cations from the near field zone. TCA involves strong acid digestion of soils followed by ICP-MS/ICP-OES analysis of major cations, allowing UNDO to determine how much silicate-rich rock has weathered and left the system. This combination ensures robust verification of our carbon removal quantification. TCA is supported by traditional measurement techniques: analysing exchangeable soil cations and monitoring pore water composition (including major cations, anions, and total alkalinity) from in-field sites. These measurements allow us to calculate carbon dioxide sequestration through charge balance calculations. Additionally, calcimetry measurements are employed to quantify secondary carbonate formation at high application densities, critical for accurately constraining silicate weathering kinetics across all operational conditions.

Fasera is a world leader in sustainable businesses in the push to net-zero. The Fasera Terrestrial Storage of Biomass project joins our established Biochar and Environmental Planting projects to bring a third stream of carbon removal credits online. Project Overview: Fasera takes the remnant biomass from our eucalyptus oil distillation operations, that is not suitable for pyrolysis and which otherwise would be burnt in situ to mitigate summer fire risk and stores it in anaerobic chambers, excavated on nonarable land on our Canterbury Farm, which is also where our distillation operations take place. Facility Details: An initial 14ha site has been chosen for the facility with the capacity of 70 - 100 chambers with each holding approximately 1,000 tons of oil mallee Biomass. Each chamber is fitted with probes to continuously monitor temperature and humidity to ensure stable storage conditions. Fasera also operates a remote weather station at the site to continuously monitor and record environmental conditions. The facility is in Kulja, in the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia. It is a remote, dry, low rainfall area, >300 mm pa, making it an ideal site for the permanent storage of carbon. The site will be rehabilitated with native grasses and small shrubs being encouraged to regenerate on and between the chambers. Our Biomass: Typically, mature oil mallees comprise 20% leafy biomass from which Fasera extracts eucalyptus oil and 80% above ground woody biomass. This woody biomass is perfectly suited for terrestrial storage and otherwise has no viable use in this remote location. Our resource is already established through stands of mature oil mallees that will be harvested for oil, setting them up for future continuous coppice harvests. The remnant woody biomass is chipped, dried and buried in TSB chambers, preserving the organic carbon for centuries.

Karbonetiq was founded in 2022 to develop technology, processes, and projects to mineralize alkaline industrial wastes for durable, hi-quality CDR. Karbonetiq’s leadership has aggregated decades of experience in the waste-to-value industry and more than 10 years in high-durability carbon removal. Our approach inherently minimizes new environmental and social disruption, while advancing environmental justice, building climate resilience, and developing alternative livelihoods for communities impacted by, and reliant on, industrial activity. Our aim is to develop a replicable project type to establish CDR as a pillar of industrial decarbonization globally. Karbonetiq is the project proponent for Contrecoeur CDR, currently under development in Quebec, near Montreal. We are partnered with Harsco Environmental as our operational partner and site owner. This project is active and will issue initial credits in late 2025. Contrecoeur uses waste steel slag to directly sequester carbon dioxide from the atmosphere through a naturally occurring chemical reaction. The slag is crushed, screened and positioned on proprietary passive air transport devices to rapidly carbonate freshly exposed contact surfaces. MRV is primarily comprised of sampling and lab-based chemical analysis, using a variety of orthogonal methods to precisely quantify credits. We also implement site-based measurement of gaseous CO2 to corroborate the project's impact.

ReGenerate is a bioenergy company focused on converting low-value wood residues from local logging and wood products industries into renewable power and biochar. ReGenerate harvests its high-quality, high-carbon biochar from its bioenergy facility located in Livermore Falls, Maine which also produces ~284,000 MWh of renewable energy annually. The biochar produced is deployed as sustainable landfill cover, and the ReGenerate team is exploring additional local applications, which could include soil amendment, water filtration, and environmental remediation. Significant independent research and studies are being conducted to explore the many beneficial applications of biochar. ReGenerate will look to collaborate with our established partners in our academic community to further pursue local applications. Our biochar undergoes regular testing and has a total organic carbon content of 82-85% and hydrocarbon ratio results ranging from 0.16-0.29. Both statistics are indicative of a very stable biochar that is suitable for carbon sequestration and long-term soil improvement which could provide benefits to the agricultural community.

First Puro biochar project in China, pyrolyzing agricultural waste into biochar for soil improvement. China generates approximately 0.8 billion tons of agricultural waste annually. Treatment of agricultural waste is a significantly challenge since burning or crushing/returning to fields pose environmental risks. In the meanwhile, excessive fertilizer use, driven by yield demands, dramatically increased greenhouse gas emissions and non-point source pollution, threatening the agroecosystems. Nanjing Nian’da Biochar Project addresses above issues by partnering with farmers to collect agricultural waste and centrally pyrolyze into biochar, then applied to the same fields providing feedstock. This approach long-term sequesters CO2, enhances soil quality, reduces fertilizer use, boosts crop yields/quality, and increases farmer income & awareness, advancing sustainable agriculture. The project is currently operating one production line and has generated 330 CORCs in the first crediting period. With carbon credit incomes, it aims to reach full capacity by 2025 (1,500 CORCs/year) and expand with two additional lines by 2026-27 (4,500 CORCs/year) to benefit larger community.

Through our subsidiaries, Silvaseed—a trusted, 130-year-old nursery and the largest seed supplier in the Western U.S.—and Cal Forest Nursery, California's leading seedling provider, Mast grows over 36 million seedlings each year. Our integrated services cover every stage of reforestation, from wild seed collection and seedling cultivation to site planning, planting, monitoring, and carbon project development. At Mast Wood Preserve MT1 in Montana, we’re pioneering our restorative approach by combining biomass burial with long-term land stewardship. The biomass for this project consists of fire-killed ponderosa pine trees, most of which was cut and stacked after the 2021 Poverty Flats Fire. Initially slated for burning—which would release stored carbon back into the atmosphere in 2025—the logs will instead be permanently buried at a dedicated storage site, in dry, oxygen-limited conditions designed to prevent decomposition, and durably remove carbon from the atmospheric cycle. The MT1 project will permanently sequester approximately 5,000 tonnes of CO₂e. The burial site is protected by an open space easement for at least 100 years, and environmental sensors will continuously monitor site conditions and greenhouse gas emissions. After burial, the area will be restored with native grasses, supporting its ongoing use for grazing. To ensure long-term project integrity, Mast will establish an endowment fund dedicated to future monitoring, maintenance, and stewardship. Site operations are currently underway, with biomass burial completion expected by May 2025. Carbon credits from the project are anticipated to be issued as early as September 2025.

Biocarbon Tech Asia is a pyrolysis project being developed in Malaysia that will pyrolyse palm trunk waste, bamboo and other agricultural residue to produce biochar and green energy while sequestering carbon. The project intends to establish a truly circular model for operating palm plantations that will not only upcycle every waste stream generated on site but also remove carbon, reduce fertiliser dependencies and meet local energy requirements. The palm processing activities in Malaysia’s palm plantations generate several waste streams like empty fruit bunches, kernel shells, waste effluent, mesocarp and palm tree trunks. Every year, these plantations fell old oil palm trees that have reached the end of their productive life to facilitate replantation. The poor physical and chemical properties of the trunks of these trees make them impossible to be repurposed for traditional timber and plywood uses. Thus, they are broken up, piled in a line and left to decompose on the plantation site, taking up to 5 years to fully compost. Composting is a form of recycling that does not fully utilise the potential of the material. Furthermore, since this felling occurs on a daily basis, the emissions that the composting activities generate on the entire site cannot be ignored. Located in Sabah, East Malaysia, Biocarbon Technologies has already implemented several initiatives on its palm plantation to make their site operations green. Some examples include anaerobic digestion plant, biomass boiler to generate green electricity and running biomethane-fuelled truck fleets. However, it soon became clear that pyrolysis would be a better way of handling palm tree trunks than composting, both economically and environmentally. Diverted from the being left to compost in the fields, the palm trunks will be chipped, dewatered and dried before being pyrolysed by two pyrolysis units to sequester carbon and produce sap (a substance used to enhance biogas production), biochar and syngas. The syngas, when burned, will produce green energy that will power different plantation operations. Through an existing steam generator, it will produce green electricity to meet local energy requirements. It will also support energy requirements of torrefaction, a process that will produce black pellets, a fuel essential for steel industry’s green transition. The biochar will be used on the plantation to reduce fertiliser requirements as well as sold for both, soil and non-soil applications like construction material substitutes.

CarboHeroes will remove up to 0.5 gigatons of CO2 from the atmosphere by 2050 through a circular economy model based on production and application of biochar, which is explicitly highlighted as key carbon removal technology with several co-benefits to fight climate change by IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change – a body of the UN) and UNFCCC. Biochar will be incorporated into the soil, increasing its health while at the same time sequestering massive amounts of carbon. In this way we combine sustainable agriculture with a significant carbon reduction effect by using agricultural waste. Biochar is produced by thermal carbonization (“Pyrolysis”) and is one outstanding way of establishing circular agricultural models. Biochar’s porous structure and internal surface area enable it to store water and nutrients and bind pollutants. In addition, a significant amount of the carbon of the source material remains stable the long term, effectively removing CO2 from the atmosphere. The first module of the scalable business is planned in Costa Rica. We have secured an annual amount of >80,000 tons wood residue as input material for the pyrolysis process. Furthermore, we can access a multiple of tons per year from the coffee, pineapple, and sugarcane industry. We will help companies achieving their net-zero goals in creating, issuing, and trading high-quality carbon credits with the permanent fixation of the carbon in the soil. In addition, there are numerous applications for biochar in markets inside and outside agriculture that make processes and products more environmentally friendly and sustainable. The business model is based on the massively growing carbon credit market in the first phase, supplemented by selling into biochar application cases in the second phase. The Three Mountains Cocoa Biochar project is establishing a biochar production facility in the Ashanti region of Ghana. Three Mountains Cocoa is a premium organic cocoa processing company that has earned a reputation for prioritizing the welfare of farmers, the environment, and the surrounding communities. By working directly with their network of 2,000 local farmers, the Three Mountains Cocoa Biochar project aims to collect 16,000 tons of cocoa pods annually for conversion into biochar. This project will not only create a new revenue stream for farmers but will also help address climate change by converting agricultural waste into carbon-negative products. The partnership will promote sustainable farming practices while supporting carbon sequestration efforts, ultimately reducing greenhouse gas emissions and enhancing soil health, generating 8,000 tons/year CO2 of carbon credits using high-technology biochar production. The produced biochar will be blended with manure and distributed to over 2,000 smallholder farmers in the Ashanti region of Ghana who supply Three Mountains Cocoa with their cocoa beans to be used as a soil amendment mixed with pig manure and applied to cropland and forest surfaces. These smallholder farmers will have the opportunity to earn an additional $5-8 per ton of cocoa pods that would typically go to waste. The biochar will enhance soil health and boost agricultural yields for the smallholder farmers working with Three Mountains Cocoa. In addition, the project will contribute to overall improvements in soil quality and water health, helping to mitigate climate change impacts while supporting the preservation of surrounding natural habitats, including a UNESCO-protected forest. In the baseline scenario, cacao pods are left to decay without being utilized for energy production. This accumulation of thousands of tons of cacao pods placed a significant strain on the environment and local communities. As the pods decomposed, they released large amounts of CO2e and methane, similar to the emissions from open burning. Additionally, the decaying pods attracted pests and contributed to downstream water pollution. The first crediting period of this single-site project is expected to remove an estimated 8,000 tons of CO2e (tCO2e) annually, leading to the removal of an estimated 56,000 tCO2e over a 7-year period. AgroCCS B.V. is developing a project in the Varanasi region of Uttar Pradesh, India, that aims to convert agricultural waste (rice husks and straw) into biochar using advanced pyrolysis technology. The biochar will be distributed to the farmers and used as a soil amendment. This process of converting agricultural waste into biochar will benefit farmers and local communities by improving soil health, reducing the need for chemical fertilizers, increasing water retention, and reducing air pollution by replacing the practice of open field burning. The site in Varanasi will be equipped with Beston BST-50 pyrolysis technology capable of processing 15 cubic meters of agricultural residue per hour. Based on the parameters of the project’s planned operations, the annual CO2 removal potential of the project is an average 11,544 tonnes. Local farmers will be the primary users of biochar, which will be provided free of charge to promote soil health and sustainability in agricultural practices. The project's financial model is based on the revenue generated through the sale of carbon credits. AgroCCS B.V. will sell the carbon credits issued under the Puro.Earth carbon removal standard. Enable Earth is launching a pioneering biochar production project in Wiang Pa Pao district, Chiang Rai, Thailand, to tackle air pollution and improve soil health. The project focuses on converting leftover corn plant residues—usually burned in fields, worsening air pollution—into biochar, a material that enhances soil fertility while capturing carbon.Using specialized pyrolysis technology, the project aims to produce biochar efficiently, selecting Earth Systems' equipment for initial operations. The biochar will be mixed with compost and distributed to local farmers to improve crop yields and reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers. The initiative is expected to remove and store carbon dioxide (CO₂), with each ton of biochar offsetting around 1.8 tons of CO₂. Since the biochar market in Thailand is still developing, the project relies on selling carbon credits through the Puro.Earth platform to sustain operations. Beyond environmental benefits, the project aligns with global sustainability goals by creating jobs, reducing air pollution-related health risks, and promoting sustainable agriculture. Enable Earth is working closely with local communities, government agencies, and researchers to ensure long-term success. Once proven, the model could expand to other provinces and neighbouring countries, scaling its positive impact on climate and agriculture.

SCG Cement is a leading company in the construction materials industry, operating the largest cement and concrete production facilities throughout Thailand. We are dedicated to ESG principles, striving to produce environmentally friendly products and services with the lowest carbon emissions. In our pursuit of innovation, we have developed advanced biomass refinery technology aimed at creating a circular economy for Thai farmers. We have established the country's largest pyrolysis plant, which converts agricultural waste into biochar. A portion of the biochar is used to enhance soil quality, while another part is incorporated into cement and concrete. The facility uses a continuous pyrolysis process that not only meets local environmental standards but also carefully controls emissions to reduce our impact on the community. Our post-treatment technology, co-developed with our internal startup ‘Arbon’, ensures that the biochar possesses the ideal properties for these applications, enabling permanent carbon sequestration. The developed biochar can be used to enhance performance of concrete and partially replace usage of clinker and cement in concrete applications leading to further reduction in carbon emission from the construction industry. In soil applications, our biochar enhances crop productivity, which can lead to increased income for farmers and promote sustainable agricultural practices by enriching soil fertility. Moreover, transforming agricultural waste into biochar contributes to addressing the PM 2.5 pollution issue. Many farmers in Thailand traditionally burn leftover materials after harvest to prepare for the next planting cycle. Our goal is to purchase agricultural waste, such as rubber tree stump and other residues, to discourage burning and provide farmers with an additional income stream. Looking to the future, our plans extend beyond producing biochar for our own mining site rehabilitation. We are also exploring solutions for utilizing inorganic waste to accelerate weathering (EW), which is another technology for carbon sequestration. We are optimistic that the sale of carbon credits will enable us to achieve significant carbon sequestration targets. Through these innovative efforts, SCG Cement is at the forefront of environmental stewardship, paving the way for a sustainable future while supporting the agricultural community in Thailand.

CarbonZero.eco, a Silicon Valley startup, is developing a facility to convert almond shells into biochar through pyrolysis using the BST-50S unit from Beston. This process heats the shells in a low-oxygen environment, producing both biochar and synthetic gas (syngas). The syngas will be cleaned and filtered, then used as a renewable energy source to power the unit, enabling a self-sustaining operation. The project, scheduled to launch in June 2025, will be located at the Cortina facility in Williams, CA, on land owned by the local almond co-op. Designed to process 6 tonnes of biomass per hour and operate 310 days per year, the facility aims to handle 20,000 tonnes of biomass annually. The biochar will be provided at no cost to nearby almond farms, supporting sustainable agricultural practices in the region. CarbonZero.eco partnered with Offstream on permitting and certification support.

A CORC is a CO2 Removal Certificate, a first of its kind carbon credit that represent one tonne of verified and removed carbon.

CORCs in stock:The issued CORCs available for spot purchase. It does not include CORCs that may be reserved and available for purchase via sales channel partners.
Available for reservation:The number of future CORCs available for reservation with advance market commitments based on the facility’s forecasting data.

Facility types:

Operational:The facility is operating as a carbon removal facility. CORCs have already been issued and are available on the spot market or the facility will undergo its first audit in the upcoming months.
Future Facilities:The facility is in the development phase and is actively seeking commitments from potential buyers to purchase future CORCs.

Certification:

Certified:Facility has passed the first third-party audit to verify the net volume of removed carbon which has been issued into CORCs.
