Certification journey

We track the progress of a carbon removal project through our certification framework. This roadmap moves from a preliminary assessment of eligibility toward full certification under the Puro Standard.

The facility has successfully completed the preliminary assessment conducted by the Puro team, meeting the minimum criteria for listing as a future supplier on Puro.earth.

The facility has passed the third-party facility audit, verifying compliance with the methodology, as well as output audit, verifying the net volume of removed carbon. The facility has been issued CORCs and continues its removal operations, as well as monitoring and reporting to Puro.earth.

Development status

We monitor a facility’s maturity as it moves toward industrial-scale operations. This status identifies whether a project is in development, under construction, or actively removing carbon from the atmosphere.

The feasibility study is ongoing. The Supplier is still collecting data to prove the concept.

The front-end engineering and design are ready and methodology compliant. There is a clear plan to monitor and measure. The LCA is up to the needed quality level or subject to small improvements. The technology has been used before. There are commercial agreements with the relevant business partners of the facility.

The facility is fully funded and is being implemented. Relevant infrastructure is being built.

The facility is operating as a carbon removal facility.

Tigasfera Greentech Sdn Bhd (TG) is advancing climate infrastructure in Malaysia by converting underutilized organic waste streams into durable carbon removal through biochar production. By deploying decentralized, containerized pyrolysis and integrated power generation system, TG transforms landscape and biomass waste into stable biochar while simultaneously generating renewable energy and circular bio-based products.

Across rapidly urbanizing regions, large volumes of landscape and biomass waste are generated from routine municipal landscape maintenance and green waste management as well as from wood mills and wood-based factories. Without intervention, this biomass is typically landfilled at a distant location, left to decompose, or openly burned—releasing stored carbon back into the atmosphere and creating unnecessary environmental burdens.

Tigasfera’s Biochar Carbon Removal Projects change this pathway. Through controlled pyrolysis, carbon contained in biomass is stabilized into biochar, locking atmospheric carbon into a solid form that can remain stored for centuries. The resulting biochar is applied in long-lived uses such as soil enhancement, fertilisers, cultivation substrates, animal feed additives, construction materials, and cold mix asphalt for road construction. These applications enable permanent carbon removal while delivering co-benefits including improved soil health, enhanced water retention, and reduced reliance on synthetic inputs.

The system simultaneously generates renewable electricity and heat from syngas produced during pyrolysis, displacing fossil-based energy and improving overall resource efficiency. By processing waste near its source, the project reduces transport emissions, lowers municipal waste management costs, and creates a circular pathway for biomass that would otherwise be wasted.

Developed in partnership with local councils and waste owners, the project secures reliable long-term feedstock while supporting local circular economy development. Backed by PETRONAS, TG combines innovative climate technology with strong institutional support and global industry networks.

Tigasfera’s Biochar Carbon Removal Projects deliver broad environmental, social, and economic benefits to both the carbon removal ecosystem and local communities by establishing a replicable, decentralized biochar production and carbon removal model. By converting locally sourced biomass into biochar-based products, the projects create a circular, closed-loop system that reduces waste disposal costs, improves soil health, increases crop productivity, and provides durable carbon sequestration.

In addition, the projects support local communities by creating skilled green jobs and fostering partnerships with municipal councils and waste owners. Tigasfera also engages stakeholders through initiatives such as river care programs, community farming and buy back option, promoting environmental stewardship and resilient ecosystems.

From an environmental perspective, the projects permanently store carbon, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance soil resilience, and promote efficient use of biomass resources.
