Direct Air Capture and Ocean Storage

This safe, durable and quantifiably robust methodology under Puro Standard can achieve highly permanent carbon removal of 1,000+ years. The DACOS process is performed with seawater in a closed system, making it safe, monitored and measured.

DACOS

Seawater is processed via electrolysis in a closed and carefully monitored on-shore reactor. In this process, renewable electricity and naturally occurring alkaline rocks are used to permanently sequester atmospheric CO2 as solid carbonate minerals on land and dissolved carbon in the ocean.

key benefits

Permanent removal through atmospheric capture and ocean storage

Long-term carbon removal

Highly durable carbon removal by storing CO2 for 1,000+ years as dissolved carbon in the ocean and solid carbonate minerals on land.

Controlled on-shore process

Uses a closed and carefully monitored on-shore reactor to provide a controlled pathway for carbon removal.

Additional system benefits

Can also help reduce ocean acidification and produce green hydrogen.

permanent removal

Scalable ocean sequestration and acidification benefits

The ocean is already one of the planet’s largest carbon sinks. It has significant potential to support durable carbon removal at scale. By helping counter ocean acidification, these approaches can also support the ocean’s natural role as a carbon sink and its long-term ability to continue absorbing and storing carbon.
